Outlook 2007 trying to send phantom messages

Any time send/receive is active, I see a message that outlook is trying to
send 9 messages (gets to "sending message 3 of 9" then fails). There are no
messages in the Outbox. This problem appreared after using Oultook 2007 for 6
months with no problems.

The error reads "Task 'mail.<<name>>.com - Sending' reported error
(0x800CCC80) : 'None of the authentication methods supported by this client
are supported by your server.'

Again, these settings have been unchanged and have been working for 6 months
or so.

Any suggestions on what is wrong and what needs to be fixed? (I have run
Norton and Trend Micro scans with nothing discovered.)

Thanks,

Thanks Brian,

I took a slightly different approach that I had not thought of before I
posted my question.

I use my Outlook for multiple accounts, and it turned out the run with the
error is an account I have never used. It is the account my cable company
required me to set up to be able to send mail using a different ISP. It turns
out not to be necessary for Outlook to function with my active accounts. So,
I deleted the account. The error no longer appears.

I do not know if it would reappear if I added the account back in, but for
the moment, it's gone.

Thanks again, Brian. I am keeping your solution tucked away in case the
problem pops up again.
