Outlook 2007 sending phantom messages

Outlook will not send any messages from my inbox. Instead it says something
like "sending 6 of 6" or "sending 3 of 3" when there is only one message in
the outbox. I have deleted all the original messages I wanted to send and
tried again. Now it continues to report "sending 6 of 6" even though the
outbox is empty. When I put a new message in to test it, it will not send
that new message. It just hangs up in this 6 of 6 thing. Advice?

I think there are two issues here. One is that Outlook 2007 doesn't keep
good track of the count of messages to send when there are multiple accounts
defined in the mail profile. Do you have more than one account defined?

The second issue might be undeliverable read receipts. See this:
