If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.

This sounds interesting but what do you really mean by disintegrating Norton
Internet security 2008, uninstall it or merely change settings?

Uninstall it and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.

THIS IS NOT AN ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE PROBLEM - THIS IS OUTLOOK - Once it
happens to you, there is no solution. There is no fix that will make Outlook
function properly. Don't listen to anyone who says the problem is causled
by the the size of YOUR incoming emails, or by YOUR POP server, or YOUR ISP,
our YOUR antivirus software. IT'S CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. and it's unbelieveble
that Microsoft won't help.

Can you prove that?
IT'S CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. and it's unbelieveble that Microsoft won't help.

Where is your proof for this assertion? Have you opened a service incident?
Do so and Microsoft will help.

"jd" is right. It happens also to me, since the last updates for Office 2K7
installed on my system (XP SP3). No more than a month ago, I'd say. The
problem (well, it's more some sort of 'annoyance' than a real 'problem'...
unless there is something that goes on 'behind the curtains' that we don't
figure) never happened before these updates.

Not sure if i should open a ticket in 'connect.microsoft.com' ...

This problem definitely started after Vista SP1 for me. The tray icon stays
stuck in "syncronizing folders" mode until I mouse over it. Once again
Microsoft doesn't evaluate all the consequences of the changes it makes to
the OS... nor do they seem to care. No wonder they had to disguise their
Vista OS in the Mojave experiment... who the hell wants to be a Bill Gates
guinea pig???

Fix it Bill

I am having the same problem. Just recently, about the time of the last
automatic update. The tray icon gets stuck in send/receive mode.
