Outlook 2007 Journal-Automatically log Office files over network

I've searched extensively on this subject and all I have found was a post in
this forum that references the following problem.

I have used the Journal feature in Outlook 2003 extensively to track all of
my work, so that I can easily prepare my timesheet. 95% of my work is done in
Office, and the documents I access are on a network. Unfortunately, I don't
know too many technical details beyond that, as I am not in IT...just a
frustrated end user.

I now have Outlook 2007, and the Journal feature is turned on to track
Office documents; however, only local documents (the occasional personal
document I might have on a USB key, etc.) are logged. All of my work
documents are on a network and are not logged. Is my understanding correct
from a previous post, in that MS deliberately ceased tracking documents over
a network in the Outlook 2007 Journal feature? If so, is there a replacement
feature/product that will track all of a user's Office documents worked on?

I use my task list alot too, but I really don't want to write everything
down or create a task every time someone needs me to work on a document. The
Journal was perfect for this.

For now, I am going to use the "My Recent Documents" feature of Windows to
see what documents I worked on. Journal was better, in that it tracked the
time spent on each document, so if anyone knows of a replacement feature,
that's great. Otherwise, "My Recent Documents" is acceptable to help me at
least figure out what projects I worked on!

Jennifer,

If you search for "Journal 2007" within this forum, you will find other
threads and posts on this same issue. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom,
did this *on purpose* - Journal will only track items open on your local hard
drive and not across the network. I actually paid for a service call to
Microsoft and also submitted a bug report. Just try to find places to post
and complain and maybe if they get enough reports they will fix this.
