Outlook 2007 Instant search

I recently installed Outlook 2007 on a new Vista Ultimate machine. I have
installed all of the service packs for Windows and Outlook. I am unable to
get the instant search to work. I have read all of the newsgroup postings:
uncheck Outlook in the index list, wait to finish indexing, reindex the whole
machine overnight. (http://www.msoutlook.info/question/47). I have tried
them all. Nothing works. I never get a notification in Outlook that the
index is complete and the numbers are always changing. I have followed every
step in the newsletter above.

What is the next step for this?

I still have to add one to that guide which has proven to be successful as
well;
Under the "Rebuild" button there is a "Restore Defaults" button. When all
other methods fail, use that button and wait for the index to complete.

certainly wish I would have had this information earlier. I have read so
many entries regarding this function.
