outlook 2007 crashes

Got the Office 2003 60 day trial on a laptop - bought 2007 version of office
- all "Sent" & "Inbox" items transferred over - am using a GMAIL POP email
addy

2 problems:

1 - I can receive email sent to my GMAIL acct, but cannot send...

2 - EVERY time I try to send an email, open a new email or open an old email
that had been on the 2003 version - outlook crashes. Every time...

I thought Outlook was capable of being used to read, send & receive emails -
not on my computer...

I have read the messages about Adobe - I have version 7.0 & my control panal
gives no option for changing anything through "Add/Remove Programs" - just an
option to repair or uninstall

I'm having other minor problems as well...

wow - just tried to open an appointment in the calender - same thing - crash
the system & restart...

changes I am making in the view are not saving as the program shuts itself
down & re-opens - system is slow

like I said - wow.

....and the system crashes when I try to add a contact or view an old contact
file as well...

my oh my. EVERY function is warped. When I try to do anything, the system
will not only fail to perform, but it will automatically restart outlook
without saving the changes in the view I have created.

I am very frustrated with the new Office. I had been using Office 2000 & got
the trial version of 2003 when I bought a new laptop 2 months ago - Office
HAD always been my friend & helped me stay organized. Now, not so much...

On a positive note, my wife just made me a bacon egg & cheese biscuit AND
since the kids are visiting grandparents, I got it on the 'Winnie the Pooh'
plate!

Make sure you uninstall the trial version of Office 2003 and any other
version of Office first. Then install Office 2007.
If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration. Also ake sure you don't have any add-ins installed that are not
compatible with Outlook 2007.

After this reset your outcmd.dat and extend.dat file by renaming it to .old.

In addition recreate your mail profile;

Now start Outlook again.

Robert,

I just uninstalled Office 2007

should i run "Search" & delete all old files tied to Office?

Also - How do I reset/rename my outcmd.dat and extend.dat file by renaming
it to .old?

Dan - oh yeah - thanks for the quick reply? if you were here - I'd give you
a bisquit AND wash the 'Pooh' plate for you...

I hope you had a good breakfast/lunch(?) ;-)

Always uninstall through Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs
If you have any previous versions of Office installed they should be listed
there as well.

Are you running Windows Vista or XP? You can also use OutlookTools (free) to
locate the folders where extend.dat and outcmd.dat reside. You can rename
them just like any other file.

To obtain OutlookTools go to;

boy did I screw up...

I deleted from program files & now my system won't even allow updates...

I am saving all my important files & going to do a system restore.

THEN - I'll remove Office '03 trial from 'add/remove'

THEN I'll re-install '07

THEN i'll let you know if all this worked...

BTW - I am grateful for your response & help. I have seen some folks be rude
& even hateful - amazing

Like I said - I appreciate the input & help & you can't beat the price...
