Outlook 2007 calendar freeze plus 'search scope' error

I'm running Outlook 2007 under Vista.

Since the 3/12 updates to Office and Outlook, I can't view my calendar in
Outlook without Outlook eating up 50% cpu and locking up until killed.


In addition I've got errors in my event viewer related to search:


Since yesterday, each time I open Outlook 2007 two error entries appear in
the log "failed to determine if the store is in the crawl scope
(error=0x8001010d)". The event ID is either 34 or 35 for the two entries.
Outlook appears to run ok but I would sooner stay away from a hole rather
than fall in later.


The relevant updates are KB947801 - Office 2007 security, KB946983 - Outlook
2007 security and KB946041. It was right after these installed that this
started to happen.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I tried rebuilding the search indexes but
that does not help at all.

I believe I resolved the 'freeze' error by deleting my Exchange account from
my email profile (which kills both the local cache files and associated
search setting) and then adding the Exchange account back to Outlook.

Re-indexing did not do the trick - nor did removing Outlook from the
indexed content.

The search scope errors returned after a day, as did the calendar freeze
problem.

Uninstalling KB946983 stopped the search scope errors but the calendar
freeze remains as of now.

Ultimately I addressed these two issues by:
1) uninstalling Microsoft Update KB292777. This update apparently 'kills'
Windows Update which caused other downstream issues.
2) Installed Vista SP1 from the standalone installer. Went smoothly.
3) Installed Windows Search 4 Preview.

Windows Search 4 requires Vista SP1. Vista SP1 required Windows Update to
be actually working.

At this point I've got search functionality working smoothly and Outlook is
happy.
