It sometimes happens that when I am writing an email, suddenly I can not
anymore put my pointer anywhere in the text. The only cure then is to save,
exit and reopen the email. Has anyone else experienced this? Too bad there
is no way of telling Microsoft about it, unlike when I was testing Outlook
2003, there was a way of reporting the bugs.

Yes, and there has been a previous thread on this. My experience is that if
you wait long enough you get the cursor back. I think this happens most
frequently while OL 2007 is processing / receiving new messages. It is just
part of the terrible performance problems of Beta 2 is my guess.

Next time it happens, I'll try to wait to see if it comes back but I
remember waiting quite a long time once or twice and it did not come back.

Yes there is a method. It is called Send a Smile and is mentioned quite a
couple of times before and after you download the BETA and go through the
FAQ and Known Issues documentation.

It is just sometimes sloooooow.
