Outlook 2007 (Beta 2) Locks Every Minute

G

Hello, everyone. I'm still in love with 2007, but I've noticed something I
can quite figure out. Actually, if I recall, it happened in 2003 too.

I use Word as my email editor. As I write emails, the cursor freezes every
minute for about 10 seconds, then what I've typed zooms across the page. It's
a bit annoying and I'd prefer to stop this behavior if possible. I checked
Word's settings and AutoSave is only set to every 10 minutes, so that doesn't
seem to be it. Also, Outlook is set to download email every 5 minutes, so
that doesn't seem likely either. I would be very grateful for any advice!

Much thanks!

If you are running any add-ins; disable them. It might help with performance
as most add-ins will need to get updated for Outlook 2007. Other performance
issues will be fixed in later builds.

Roady,

Thanks for the response. My apologies for neglecting to mention, but because
of some earlier problems, I actually reinstalled WinXP, SP2, all the patches
and updates, and then reinstalled Office 2007, so I am running this on a
pristine machine with no plugins or add-ons.

I did have some with Outlook 2003, and I suppose it's possible they did
something, but I can't be sure.

Oh, I lied...I did install Business Contact Manager to play with that and
see if it will be useful, but again, this problem existed on 2003 as well as
2007. I wish I had found AutoSave set for every minute, because that seems
like it would have been it, but I guess it can't be.

Does your virus scanner integrate with Outlook? If so disable this
integration (see the documentation of your virus scanner) and try again.

Ahhh...now, why didn't that even occur to me? I think that's a very good
intuition, but I must say disabling that makes me nervous. I have never ever
had a virus, and won't disabling my virus software allow me to download a
virus? I guess...I could probably try it for a few minutes, and then turn it
back on, just to see. Let me try and I'll let you know. Thanks!

Make sure you don't disable your entire virus scanner ;-)

Mail integration doesn't give you an extra layer of protection. Default
security features and your on-access-scanner are sufficient.

Well, I turned off the mail check, and that didn't stop the freezes; they
were identical with scanning and without scanning mail. If it helps, I use
PC-Cillin from Trend Micro.

Again, I realize this is beta software, and I'm not overly concerned, but as
I said, it happened with 2003 too. In the scheme of things it's a fairly
minor irritation, but it would be nice to fix it. If you or anyone has more
suggestions, I'd love to hear them, and if not, I'm sure grateful for your
help and suggestions! Thanks!

You're welcome! Nope, currently it is hard to help even more. You might want
to wait for Office 2007 BETA2TR and see if it still happens. Otherwise
downgrade (or even better; do a complete PC reinstall) to Outlook 2003,
completely update it and see if it still happens. It's much eassier to
troubleshoot a released application as you simply know that it has to work
;-)

Can do, and thanks again!

Oh...do you know when BETA2TR is expected to be released (and will they
charge, or will upgrades be free for those already using it)? Not looking for
precision; just an informed "guesstimate." I'm currently using:
(Beta) (12.0.4017.1006) MSO (12.0.4017.1003)

I hope your weekend is going well!

Best guess is mid-September. As for general availability to the public,
pricing, etc. that has not been announced. Once it becomes available, then
the rest should follow.
