Outlook 2007 Address Book

B

Barry

I have a Toshiba laptop running XP.

I recently installed Outlook 2007 that replaced Outlook 2002. When I
installed Outlook 2007 all of my entries that were in the inbox and sent box
of the 2002 version of Outlook transferred to the 2007 version of Outlook.
However, the names and email address' that were in the 2002 version of
Outlook address book did not transfer to the 2007 version of Outlook address
book.

When I tried to manually rebuild my address book with names and email
address' in the 2007 version of Outlook, I got an error message saying "that
entry already exists". So, my questions are as follows:

1. Where do I find my address book information?? Since I am getting an error
message I assume it is somewhere on my harddrive.

2. How do I load my Outlook 2007 address book with names and email address'
once I find this information??

B

Barry

When I do the first part of the instructions, my address book is simply
listed as "Outlook Address Book" and the type is "MAPI"

When I go to step 2, I clicked on file, then then folder, and then
"Properties for Inbox...". A new box appeared, but it did not have a tab
"Outlook Address Book", only "General", "Home Page", "AutoArchive",
"Administration", and "Forms"

You use the properties for the Contacts Folder, not the Inbox. There are no
Contacts in your Inbox.

Ok, I have the contact page showing. However, it shows only 9 names - this
was not my complete address book in my older version of Outlook and it is
only showing names as first, last in one column and last ,fist in another
column. It does not show the email address' for each of these nine people.

State clearly how you installed the new version and how you migrated your

Barry

All I did to install the new version was put the disk in the disk drive and
follow the prompts.

I did not migrate any previous data to the new version. When the new version
had completed loading data just appeared in the inbox and sent box going back
to February 2006. The only data that appeared in the address book were the
nine people in the incomplete format as stated previously.

Please note - I removed the previous version of Outlook before installing
Outlook2007. Since my inbox and sent box appeared, I assume they were saved
on my hard drive. If this is true I assume my address book is on my hard
drive too. How do I access the address book and how to I get it into my
address book like it was in the old version?

Outlook 2002 & 2007 does not use an Address Book, they both use Contacts,
which is contained within the main data file - by default outlook.pst -
The Contacts folder is then configured / set to be 'viewed' as a windows
address book - this is the view you see when you click the 'to' in a new msg

You cannot install Outlook that way without creating a new profile from
scratch then attaching your previous Outlook data file to it. I assume you
keep track of and back up your data, right? If not, then search for your
previous data file and open it in Outlook.

When I searched for Outlook files I found 70 different files. One was labeled
Outlook_data and another different file is labeled Outlook1.pst:tmp.

Looking up software and putting them into Outlook is an area I am unfamilar

Let's do the easy stuff first. I find it highly unlikely that you actually
have 70 Outlook data files. Conduct your search only for *.pst files (they
are hidden files). Open each one you find in Outlook (File > Open > Outlook
data file...). You should be able to find the one that contains all your
Outlook data, including your Contacts. When you do, make a note of the name
and location of that file, and post back.

The *.pst files are the ones that contain data, you have to search to
include hidden.
What names are the files found?
In Outlook whan you select properties of 'Personal Folders' what is the path

When I searched for *.pst files 3 outlook files, 1 personal folder, and an
archive file came up. It didn't matter which file I clicked on, a caution box
appeared. It said "You are attempting to open a file of type 'Microsoft
Office Outlook Personal Folders' (.pst)

These files are used by the operating system and various programs. Editing

If you still want to open the file click open with, otherwise click cancel.

The names of the files are as follows: archive, Outlook, Outlook1, Personal
Folders (1), Outlook. The in folder column is listed as follows: The first 4

all under 1000 KB

Only Outlook can open a pst file (Within OL, File>Open>Data File...browse to
& select)
Outlook.pst is the default name when outlook is first configured, if you
create a new data file its outlook1.pst and so on. Archive.pst is the
archive data file.
A data file of 1000kb probably contains none or very little data

When I searched for Outlook files I found 70 different files. One was
labeled
Outlook_data and another different file is labeled Outlook1.pst:tmp.

Looking up software and putting them into Outlook is an area I am
unfamilar
with - I am out of my element. You will have to "hold my hand". I can
hear
you saying UGH from here!

:

You cannot install Outlook that way without creating a new profile
from
scratch then attaching your previous Outlook data file to it. I assume
you
keep track of and back up your data, right? If not, then search for
your
previous data file and open it in Outlook.

All I did to install the new version was put the disk in the disk
drive
and
follow the prompts.

I did not migrate any previous data to the new version. When the new
version
had completed loading data just appeared in the inbox and sent box
going
back
to February 2006. The only data that appeared in the address book
were
the
nine people in the incomplete format as stated previously.

Please note - I removed the previous version of Outlook before
installing
Outlook2007. Since my inbox and sent box appeared, I assume they
were
saved
on my hard drive. If this is true I assume my address book is on my
hard
drive too. How do I access the address book and how to I get it into
my
address book like it was in the old version?

:

State clearly how you installed the new version and how you
migrated
your
previous data to it.

Ok, I have the contact page showing. However, it shows only 9
names -
this
was not my complete address book in my older version of Outlook
and
it
is
only showing names as first, last in one column and last ,fist in
another
column. It does not show the email address' for each of these
nine
people.

:

I followed the instructions in step 2. now I am not sure what
you
mean.
Where
is the Contacts Folder"?

Where it says Mail, Calendar, CONTACTS, and Tasks at the bottom
L/H
side
of
the main Outlook Window....

The names of the files are as follows: archive, Outlook, Outlook1,
Personal
Folders (1), Outlook. The in folder column is listed as follows: The first
4
are C:\Documents and Settings\Barry... The last one is the same but it is
under my wife's name. Item 2 and 3 are the biggest in size. Item 2 is just
under one million KB and item 3 is just over one million KB. The others
are
all under 1000 KB

Then Item 2, outlook.pst, is the one that holds all your data.
