I am using outlook 2003 sp1 and using the calendar for inviting members. It
seems that only users with 2003 can view the invitation. All other verisons
of outlook show it garbled? do I need to change a setting? Do i lose the
feature of the replies being automatically placed in my calendar?

Microsoft offers a hotfix for Outlook 2000 to improve its compatibility with
iCal/vCal 2.0 meeting requests. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823199 . Alternatively, have Outlook 2003
senders avoid using reminders in the meeting requests they send to Outlook
2000 recipients.

The same thing happens to Outlook 2002. Do we apply the same hotfix on 2002
verisons?

No, Outlook 2002 would seem to be a different problem. We don't have a firm
handle on the cause at this point. Maybe you could give us more details on
what you're seeing.

You could, however, try leaving off the reminder and letting us know how
that goes.

Sue, having a similar issue...I'm using Outlook 2003 on XP and sending a
meeting request to other internal office users. We do not use exchange, but
rather POP3 and IMAP.

The users on Win 2K, Office 2000 via POP3 seem to work fine. I do find that
with the reminder not selected the content of the meeting request is visible
and they can accept/reject the request. Where I seem to have a major problem
is with users that are on XP, Office 2000 SP3 via IMAP only receive an email
with the subject line. There is no date/time, accept/cancel or text in the
main body of the invite.

Any suggestions or work around? I counldn't find the hotfix to download,
only the link to the article you posted above which says to contact MS
Support for the hotfix. Will this even address the issue I'm having?

Any ideas?

You have to contact Microsoft to get the OL2000 hotfix, just as it says in
the article.

I don't know of any particular issue related to Windows XP. You can always
try not using iCalendar and sending an actual RTF Outlook meeting request
instead. Make sure the recipient address is set for RTF and toggle Tools |
Send as iCalendar before sending from OL2003.

Turning off iCalendar in Office 2003 under calendar options seems to work
fine. All recipients are able to receive and respond to meeting requests
with both reminder selected and de-selected. So this begs the naive
question, what's so important about iCalendar and what am I missing out on by
not using it?
