Outlook 2003 slow to start

Outlook 2003 starts up very slowly (3 or more minutes) only at the first
Outlook startup after turning on my windows xp pc. If Outlook is closed then
reopened without restarting the pc, it only takes a ouple of seconds to
startup which seems pretty normal. What could I do to fix the problem so
that Outlook would start up normally whenever the pc is started? Thanks so
much.

That depends on a lot of factors. If your computer is still busy with
starting, there simply might not be any resources left for Outlook to start
quickly as well. Does it still take 3 minutes when your computer booted
completely?

How fast does it start after a clean boot when you start Outlook in Safe
Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

If it loads fast now, the slowdown is likely caused by one of your add-ins.
Which ones do you have installed?
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/88

For more suggestion, you'll really have to provide a lot more details to
work with. Windows version and hardware specs are of great importance when
trying to troubleshoot performance issues. Without it, we can only guess.

It takes 3 minutes after the pc is completely booted up. In safe mode it
takes the same 3 minute time. This only happens on the first boot after
restarting the pc. I am running windows xp sp2. The slowdown started about 7
months ago and the problem with slow initial startup just gets longer with
time. What info can I provide to help the diagnosis? Thanks.

What are your computer specification?
Which add-ins do you have installed?
What is the size of your pst-file?
How much space is left on the drive the pst-file is on?
Have you defragmented that disk lately?
What changed about 7 months ago?

Hi

Check your pst file and make sure it isn't broken or too big.You can try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think it is a useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST file by using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/
