Outlook 2003 refuses to send messages

My problem is that Outlook has started to occasionally refuse to send
messages from the Outbox. Going to Tools, Email Accounts and then to Test
Email Accounts indicates that all functions are working normally. However,
when I do a Send/Receive, the progress bar shows that both send and receive
functions have operated, but the email remains sitting in the Outbox.
Opening the outgoing email and clicking on the Send button does not help
either, Outlook just acts dead. I did a google search and saw a number of
people had this problem, but could not find a convincing solution. Would be
grateful for any advice. Alan.

Are you sure you mean Outlook and not Outlook Express? If it is Express then
your Sent Items.dbx file may have reached the 2GB limit. This will
certainly cause this issue. Try creating a new folder and move some of the
sent items into it and see if thinks start moving into Sent Items again.
Cheers, Bill

Thanks to the two Bills. In trying to resolve the problem I decided to
reinstall Outlook and made such a mess that I did a System Restore to a
couple of days previously. There was one email containing URLs and it may be
that my server was refusing to send it, thus blocking everything else.

In any event, the system seems now to be working fine. Appreciate the offers
of help. Alan
