Outlook 2003 Personal Folders

For some reason, in Outlook 2003, I do not have Personal
Folders listed in the folder list of my office computer.
But I do on my home computer. How do I restore the Personal
Folders?

The reason I am asking is that I am using Chapura
PocketMirror for synching pda to two different computers
with the outlook data residing on an Exchange Server. On my
home computer, the PocketMirror folder is listed under
Personal Folders, and on the office computer the
PocketMirror folder is listed under my Mailbox folder. When
I try to sync on my home computer, I get the message

"The default Outlook profile has changed.
If you continue, all previously defined folder links will be
ERASED!
Do you want to continue?"

I click No and get out of the sync with concern that I will
screw something up.

So, not sure the question above has anything to do with the
sync problem or not, but just checking all possibilities.

Hello,

Most likely, the reason you do not have Personal Folders listed on your office computer is because
you are using an Exchange Server. You are connected to your MAILBOX on the Exchange Server.
This is the store your handheld is synching with in you office.

Your home computer is not connected to an Exchange Server, subsequently, it cannot connect to a
MAILBOX. When you are using Outlook 2003 without an Exchange Server, it needs to use a local store.
Outlook uses Personal Folder files (.pst) as its local store to hold Calendar, Mail, Contacts, Notes, and
Tasks items.

Your handheld is most likely giving you the stated error message because it is looking for the original
store it is connecting to. Outlook has profiles and your handheld is recognizing that your home Outlook
2003 profile is not the same as the Outlook profile you normally sync with in your office.

Check to see if your PocketMirror software allows you to setup and sync multiple profiles. If so, you will
be able to sync your profile from work and your profile from home. If not, you will not be able to sync
both your Office and Home data.

You might not have Personal Folders at work, since your folders are kept on
the Exchange server. At home, since you don't have an Exchange server, you
need somewhere to store your items, so you have Personal Folders. At any
rate, you can create a Personal Folders file, either at home or at work by
clicking File>New>Outlook Data File.

PocketMirror may be looking for a specific mail profile. You have that mail
profile at work, but your home mail profile has a different name. What I
would do if I were in your shoes is make a copy of the at-home Personal
Folders file (file type .PST, usually located in the hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook), and let
your PDA sync. You can always add Personal Folders file you saved back into
your at-home profile.
