Outlook 2003 overules Outlook Express email without permission

I currently use Outlook Express for email. I would like to use Outlook 2003
for calander functions only please.
Problem: After launching Outlook 2003 it becomes the default email without
permission - overriding Outlook Express.
Outlook 2003/Tools/Email accounts shows no accounts.
Outlook Express/Tools/Email Accounts shows one account.
XP Pro system.

See if the 'default' option is set here: Tools menu > Options > Other tab

Default is off in Outlook 2003.
Additional info: Outlook Express is still receiving mail, but when I double
click an internet email response, Outlook 2003 email comes up.
