Outlook 2003 outbox problem

N

Nick Payne

I'm using OL2003 for POP mail to my ISP. If I have mail items sitting in my
outbox waiting to be sent, and I click on Outbox in the folder list to view
the items, then the font the Outlook uses to display the items' recipient
and subject changes from italic to plain, the date shown changes to "None",
and the items don't get sent when I do a send/receive. The only way to get
them to be sent is to drag them to the Drafts folder, open each mail as if
to edit it, click on the send button so that it goes to the Outbox, and then
do a send/receive *without* looking at the Outbox folder.

I have only seen this behaviour since upgrading to OL2003. OS is WinXP with
all current patches and OL2003 has all updates from the Office Update web
site.

In Outlook, if you check the Help menu | About Microsoft Outlook, are you by
chance running Outlook 2003 SP1?

N

Nick Payne

When I checked Help/About, it didn't mention SP1, it said "Outlook 2003
(11.5608.5703)". So I went back to Office Update and found that SP1 was
released a couple of days ago. However, after updating Office with SP1 and
the latest junk e-mail filter and rebooting, the problem is still there and
unchanged. Help/About now says SP1 (11.6359.6360)..

Yeah - I've run across this with SP1 installs the past two days; that's why
I was asking.

I'm trying to catch up in one of the Yahoo groups to which I belong and it
seems others are seeing this problem when using certain Add-Ins with Outlook
2003.

In Outlook, check Tools | Options | Other | Advanced Options | Add-In
Manager

Do you have any Add-ins installed and enabled? If so, what happens when you
uncheck them and restart Outlook?

I found three add-ins: "Exchange scan", "Exchange Extensions Property
pages", and "Fax Server Extension". I unchecked "Exchange scan" and "Fax
Server Extension" (I use forms so I didn't uncheck Exchange Extensions), and
on a restart the problem was gone.

Thanks

Internesting. Can you pinpoint whether it's just one or both those
extensions?

Guess what? I just went into the Add-in Manager, checked both of those
extensions again, restarted Outlook, and now can't reproduce the problem at
all. Something is definitely strange...

O

My solution was to uninstall "Send to OneNote from Outlook" Power Toy.
I tested it by installing again and was able to produce the same problem.
after the removal, the problem did not exist anymore. Sent a message to
Microsoft.
