Outlook 2003 opening attachments.

I have come across a problem with Outlook 2003 that I am not sure is a bug or
it was intentionally done by Microsoft.

When I recieve attachments of any type where the name of that attachment
contains periods, for example:

report04.04.05.doc

or

piccie01.12.03.jpg

If I choose to open that attachement, the periods are removed from the title
in the program that it opens up in. For example in word the periods are
missing (you can see this on the blue bar across the top where the title is
displayed) and appear like report04 04 05.doc.

Is this an intentional thing because if I choose to save rather then open
the periods are presevered. If I open they are removed.

Anyone seen this before?

I have tried this on various machines in our offices so its not system or
office version specific as far as I can tell.

Sharp eye! I'm sure it is a security feature but I'm not sure if it is
triggered by Outlook or by the OS (WinXP SP2). Using double extensions
should be avoided at all time especially to temp folders. Tried it with
Outlook 2003 on Windows 2000 already? If you see the same results you could
almost assume it's being done by Outlook.

Hi thanks for the reply I tested it out and it is Outlook 2003. I take it
this setting is hardcoded?

Thanks, Cep.

I would almost assume that it is. I'll try to dig it out for you. It might
take while so you can PM me ifit takes too long (I probably then have a hard
time finding back this post).
