Outlook 2003 not responding (hangs)

Hi .. my Outlook 2003 hangs or stops responding when
looking up contacts ... Takes 1-3 minutes to look
up a contact .. not responding .. and then recovers.
Have XP-SP2 + NortonAntivirus 2003 Pro + ZoneLabs Pro
if that could give any clue !
Help needed .. and solutions appreciated.

Where's your PST file located? Local computer, or on a network?
How big is your PST file, and have you compacted it lately?
What happens if you disable Norton's mail scanning?
Installed all Office 2003 updates from Office Update?

Our PST (new file format) is located on a local computer .. not shared
The total size of the PST file is around 1.5 GB .. Contact file is around
455MB.
I've installed all the Office updates .. yes and I've compacted the file 2-3
days ago.
I do not dare to disable Nortons mail scanning .. but added *.nch and *.vcf
into
the expections. Still very slow looking up the contacts !!
This waiting reminds me of old "basic" times !!
Hope the solution is out there ..
