Outlook 2003 New Mail Desktop Alert won't work

G

Guest

I had a particular reason to turn off the Desktop alert (the one in the
Notification Area). But when I turned it back on (by right-clicking the
outlook icon in the Notification area and clicking Show New Mail Desktop
Alert so that a checkmark appears beside it), the alert never worked again.
I've rebooted, turned the alert off and on again, all to no avail. I really
need it to work.

Are these messages being received in the default Inbox and not in a
subfolder?

Both, but mostly in subfolders. But it always worked in the past regardless
of where the message went, and now it doesn't work regardless of where the
message goes.

OK, I'm doing the wrong thing. I'm talking about the little envelope icon
that appears in the notification area. How do I get that to work again?

Haha, that is indeed a whole different thing did you disable it or is it
just hidden? Send yourself a new e-mail and wait for it to arrive (do not
use send/receive manually). You should get it back in the following way;

My envelope did show when that new message appeared, but once I opened that
e-mail the envelope disappeared even though I have several more new, unopened
messages in my Inbox. Can the envelope be set to show as long as I have new,
upopened messages?

Thanks,
Amanda

No. Once you open any message (even an old one that you've already read),
the New Mail icon will be removed.
