We have just installed Outlook 2003. The names in our
global address list are in "LastName, FirstName" format.
Previously, if you typed the name in "FirstName LastName"
format, Outlook would correctly match the name with the
person in the GAL. This no longer is the case. Is there
a way to recover this functionality in Outlook 2003, or is
this just gone?

Thanks for any help!

By default names are sorted by "first name, last name". If you want to
change this to "last name, first name" do the following;
Go to Control Panel-> Mail-> E-mail Accounts-> View or change existing
directories or address books-> select Outlook Address Book-> Change.
At the bottom you can set the way the names are sorted.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I am
referring to selecting names from Exchange based Global
Address List. The disply name there is in "Last name,
First name" format. In Outlook 2002 and earlier, if you
typed in, for example, "Joseph Smith", it would correctly
resolve it to "Smith, Joseph" (provided there was a
match). With Outlook 2003, it is not doing that. It will
only correctly resolve if you enter it as "Smith,
Joseph". What I want to know is if this functionality is
dropped in Outlook 2003, or if I have something
misconfigured.

I've had a very similar problem..

In Outlook 2000, XP, and 2003 we were able to type in even partial
names.

Example: John Smith, we would enter "Jo Smi" and the autocheck names
would resolve the full name from the GAL

This has now stopped working with Outlook 2003 (and it was
functioning).

I'm not sure if this have been disabled in a Service Pack or Hotfix,
but I would like to be able to get this back it's very annoying
without it.
