Outlook 2003 - How can I create rule to sort attachment names?

T

Hello all,

I would really appreciate some help on this. I run Norton AntiVirus and it
has this really aggravating behavior .. all virus infected attachments are
deleted, but the emails they rode in on end up in my inbox. There is no NAV
option to not only delete a virus infected attachment but also its email.
Since all of the virus infected email I get is spam, I end up with lots of
extra junk in my inbox. The Outlook 2003 junk filtering does a pretty good
job on everything else.

So .. I want to create a rule to move all emails with a file attachment
called "Norton AntiVirus Deleted1.txt" to a folder.

It doesn't appear there is a rule that looks at file attachment names. I
tried the anywhere in the header rule, and that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

IIRC, Norton puts this tag on emails after they arrive and have been
processed by Norton. It may be that they are processed AFTER Outlook rules
have a chance to run on them. If this is the case, Outlook rules run first,
then Norton tags the mails... so Outlook rules will never work unless you
create one and run it manually on your in-box after Norton adds the tag to
the subject line.

I may be off here - I don't run Norton on my Outlook - I have Symantec
Corporate with different options.

Hi Milly!

I actually tried to run the "specific words in message header" rule for the
file attachment name manually, and it didn't work.

Is it possible that there is no Outlook rule that can process file
attachment names?

I don't believe that there is... I thought this text was inserted in the
subject line... sorry.
