What sort of mail accounts do you have? Do you have any anti-virus
software that's supposed to scan your email, or any other program that
tries to integrate with Outlook?

I'm running Norton and Systram Pro 4.0 but unloaded Systram and worked fine
for few days then "hung" again. Sometimes when I close the computer, the
"close-down" hangs and I have to turn power off to close it. Running XP SP2.

Try turning off Norton's email scanning - it seems to cause problems for a
number of people. From various posts in this group, to turn it off you'll
have to uninstall Norton, then reinstall it with the mail -canning options
unselected.

Already tried that but no success. It does not freeze all the time but seems
to be getting worse. Bit of a mystery!

Did you turn off Norton by uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling
without the options? From what I hear, just unchecking the options doesn't
really turn it off.

Do you have a PDA or anything else that synchs with Outlook?

Tried that but still no success. nothing else syncs with Outlook.

When you kill the Outlook process from Task Manager, do you get prompted to
send an error report to Microsoft? Have you done so? If so, could you
look in your Application event log (Start -> All Programs -> Administrative
Tools -> Event Viewer) for Outlook errors? Following one of these errors
should be an informational event that specifies a "fault bucket". Could
you post the bucket number?

I've switched the "error send" off. So will switch on and next time it occurs
will forward the number. Thanks for all your help.

Found number. Occured again today. number is; 103910118

Unfortunately, that bucket turns out to contain about a bazillion different
hangs (it's really hard to distinguish one hang from another, unlike
crashes, which can be categorized fairly accurately). All I can suggest is
trying to start Outlook without any add-ins - in a command prompt, go to
where your outlook.exe file lives, and type "outlook /safe" to start
Outlook without add-ins and see if that helps.

I have the same problem and the same bucket. This has been going on about a
week now.

Rebooting may/may not help since the problem eventually comes back after
some number of hours.

I have turned off AV scanning (NAV 2005 latest updates & signatures).
I still have my Firewall (Norton 2005) on, and turning it off is a serious
issue for me. However, it is configured to let Outlook access the internet,
as it always has been.

I have done Detect & Repair.

I hesitate to uninstall/reinstall because I have had problems in the past
when doing that in previous incarnations of Outlook (.pst file got corrupted
in the process - but I had backed it up manually before doing the
uninstall/reinstall).

I have sent the error report to MS probably 20 times in recent days.

Event ID: 1001
Fault bucket 103910118.

Event ID: 1002
Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 11.0.6353.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

At least once drwatson crapped out while trying to generate the report.

While Outlook is hung it does not seem to be using any of the CPU.

Here is some othe info from the Event logs that caught my eye.
Event ID: 101
wuauclt (3372) The database engine stopped.

Event ID: 103
wuaueng.dll (3372) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped the
instance (0).

Event ID: 1000
Performance counters for the Outlook (Outlook) service were loaded
successfully. The Record Data contains the new index values assigned to this
service.

Event ID: 2002
The MOF file created for the Outlook service could not be loaded. The error
code returned by the MOF Compiler is contained in the Record Data. Before the
performance counters of this service can be collected by WMI the MOF file
will need to be loaded manually. Contact the vendor of this service for
additional information.

One last thing: Occasionaly I see two (2) OUTLOOK.EXE processes running, or
two (2) instances in the notification area while Outlook is hung. It may be
synchronizing folders I don't know, but the icons in the notification area
looks like the one I see when it is synchronizing.

In my other reply I neglected to tell you this:
outlook.exe /safe
doesn't help, it still hangs.

We are experiencing the same exact error on multiple PC's. We did not have
this error until we started installing Outlook 2003. All of the new builds
are done from scratch with Windows XP Pro SP2 and Office Pro SP1. The error
typically happens after a user opens and closes anywhere between 2 and 5
messages. Outlook can be re-opened immediately and the error can be
reproduced. We have sent many error reports to MS and have even received a
response, but the knowledgebase articles referenced were not relevant and did
not solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Dear Type O

Did you find a solution to the Outlook 2003? I have been working on the
same problem as yours for a few weeks but still cannot get it solved. I
wonder whether you can help me for this. Thank you in advance. Highly
appreciated if you can share your experience with me.

Having the same problem here too. Only thing in the Event viewer says this:

The MOF file created for the Outlook service could not be loaded. The error
code returned by the MOF Compiler is contained in the Record Data. Before the
performance counters of this service can be collected by WMI the MOF file
will need to be loaded manually. Contact the vendor of this service for

KB doesn't say anything. Any ideas?
