Outlook 2003 hangs when reading Inbox

I'm running Outlook 2003 with the Office SP1 installed in Windows XP SP2 and
have been getting frequent hangs when reading email. Event Viewer gives the
following error message: EVENT ID 1002 Source: Application Hang
Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 11.0.6353.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

I have to close it in Task Manager. It's making it hard to work and makes
me want to go back to Outlook Express

Does it still happen when you run Outlook in safe mode?

Did you also make sure that your virusscanner has been updated (not just the
virusdefinitions) after the installation of SP2 and that it is compatible
with SP2? See if disabling the virusscanner integration with Office/Outlook
solves it.
