Outlook 2003 Failure

Hi,

after installing the new patches from January we have some problems with
Outlook 2003 SP2 trying to open received mails or trying to edit new mails:

-----------------------
ID: 1000, Office 11

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8118.0, stamp 456628bf,
faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5730.11, stamp 45516526, debug? 0,
fault address 0x000a9549.
-----------------------

Then you can choose to send a report to MS and Outlook restarts.

Deleting the user profile, or deleting only the mail-profile will make
Outlook to work again, but with some ammount of users is this not really a
solution.

We've noticed that users who were allready fixed still have this issue when
trying to open a mail sent from an user still having this problem.

We have an Windows 2003 SBS Server R2, XPSP2-Clients, and Outlook 2003 SP2
(and all patches). On the SBS-Server is running Exchange 2003 SP2.

We didn't find any solution in the KB, what can we do now?

Thanks and best regards,

NickD

Have you tried to reapply the latest Office SP? Also, if you use Norton,
there may be a conflict with the Norton Office plug in.

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I've uninstalled Symantec Antivirus CE 10.1 but the
issue persisted.

Reinstall your antivirus but set it not to scan incoming and outgoing mails.
This won't affect your security.

As for the original problem, have you tried a detect and repair from the
Help menu? Have you tried to delete, reboot, and recreate the Outlook profile
on the local machine?

Check the Outlook Add Ins and Coms as well.

Yes, I've tryed recreating the mail profile (..."Deleting the user profile,
or deleting only the mail-profile will make Outlook to work again, but with
some ammount of users is this not really a solution...."). But I repeat, I
don't believe that this is the only sollution of the problem. Some networks
could have x*100 computers, and then you cannot really expect, that you'll
have to recreate all this mail-profiles after installig th patches (or
perhaps after installig IE7). I've read in other newsgroup, that this failure
in outlook could be also a result of the installation of IE7.

The information about IE7 would have been helpful to know up front. I take it
you didn't test IE7 before deploying it?
Is Outlook suffering a problem opening HTML emails or all emails?

Yes, you are right, I didn't test it, my fault. And YES it's Outlook crashing
when opening a html mail!

Now we found that the reason for outlook crashing was the VoIP software from
SWYX (www.swyx.com). In the knowledge base there wo found, that I patch will
relove the issue:

http://www.swyx.com/uk/support/ssdb.html?kbid=kb3250

So we installed the patch 6.01 and outlook seems to work fine now. I'll
report here if also on monday everithing is OK with outlook.

Thanks for trying to help me!
