Hi,

Every time I try to change the default fonts in OUtlook 2003 it crashes. the
event viewer gives me the following:

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8118.0, stamp 456628bf,
faulting module user32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2622, stamp 42260159, debug? 0,
fault address 0x000529a6.

I've searched for information on this but can't find anything anywhere.
i've removed and reinstalled, tried different user profiles and disabled
Norton Internet Security but nothing seems to make a difference.

Please can anyone help?

If you use Plaxo, this could cause the problem.
Other than that, I can't find anything specifically concrete so have you
tried running Detect and Repair from the Help menu? You'll probably need your
Office CD for that. I'd consider that a first step in troubleshooting. Let me
know if that helps or not.

install. Could Skype have any effect?

skype not there - had a thought though - could there be something missing?
Stationary picker has the same effect. basically I can't set fonts or
stationary. IS there an add-in for that?

I don't think so. Were all the stationaries and fonts even installed?
One user with a Skype problem that affected Outlook deleted the Outlook add
in folder from Skype in Programmes. It seemed to work for him/her.
I can't recommend that method myself because I haven't tried it to be able
to tell you it works, and it certainly isn't the right way to deal with the
problem.

I wouldn't recommend deleting anything until you know it's definitely in
conflict with Outlook. You may have to open Skype and go through all the
options to see if you can disable any Outlook tie-in temporarily to see if
that rectifies the issue.

I would also suggest that perhaps you rename your Outlook profile and
create a new one to see if that fixes the problem.

Another thing you can try is to rename the .SRS, frmcache.dat and outcmd.dat
files while Outlook is closed. They'll recreate when you open it again. See
if that helps. These are hidden files, use Windows Explorer to unhide them.

Whatever troubleshooting steps you take, do one thing at a time and test
Outlook inbetween.

nothing changed - i still get the error.

Could it be a problem with XP? I'm running XP home service pack 2 on here.
is ti worth trying to reinstall xp?

That's a really drastic measure and really wouldn't likely solve the Outlook
issue. Have you tried the following:

Disable the link to Instant Messenger on Outlook's Tools, Options, Other tab.

Disable alternative input following instructions in How to turn off the
speech recognition and the handwriting recognition features in Office 2003:

Other options are to archive, run disk checking tools like chkdsk, scandisk
and defrag. If a PST is in use, run the inbox repair tool. If there is a
desktop search program installed, get rid of it.

i removed office2003 and reinstalled office xp to see if it had the same
problem adn i'd just not noticed, but it worked perfectly. just reinstalled
office 2003 and the problem came back. will try your suggestions and let you
know what happens

again no change with the error after doing all your suggestions.

I know that office xp works so i will reload xp and then install everything
apart from outlook. Can't really see what else to try.

Any other suggestions - or people to ask?
