Outlook 2003 - Exchange Environment

Hi,



Recently I moved users who used Outlook with POP provider to Exchange
environment and since I'm new to the idea I have couple of questions:



1. Users are connect over SSL to Exchange and settings on connection are set
to "automatically detect connection state" for whatever reason Outlook goes
to "Offline" mode, even though they have high speed connection 10/100mbps
and power management settings are turned off. Why is that and what is the
best way to configure connection related settings? (keep in mind port 135 is
block and SSL is the only way out)



2. How to configure the best Synchronization settings to minimize wait time,
so when a user hits the "Send/Receive" button Outlook doesn't wait 5min.
until all folders are updated.

1) Assuming that SSL means that Outlook 2003 is connecting to the Exchange
server via RPC over HTTPS then I would suspect that the certificate that is
used to secure IIS on the Exchange server is not trusted by the workstation.
For example, is the same certificate protecting OWA and the RPCProxy virtual
folder? If yes, do you get a security warning dialog about the certificate
when opening your web browser and typing
https://fqdn.exchange.server/rpcproxy?

The reason that I ask is that if there is any problem with the certificate
or Outlook's ability to follow the chain back to the signing certificate
authority, it will not connect. (Doesn't throw an error either. Just drops
the client into offline mode.)

2) Assuming that Outlook 2003 is configured in cached mode, users should not
be using the send/receive button. The most they might want to do is setup a
send/receive group for when Outlook is in offline to check for mail every
"X" minutes.
