Outlook 2003 Desktop Alert - Remain Until Clicked?

W

Wilma Flintstone

Greetings,

I would be grateful for any advice. My Desktop Alert in Outlook 2003 has
NEVER worked and I was Googling for some suggestions today when I came
across the ideal of creating a rule to activate the Desktop Alert. The
message also stated that it was possible to modify the rule to have the
Desktop Alert remain in place until dismissed by a clicked , but it didn't
go into any detail.
Can anyone help ?

Also , I've been experimenting with just downloading headers and I notice
the Desktop Alert (or New Mail alert) won't activate on headers alone . Is
that correct ?

TIA

Many Thanks for your reply. I tried the suggestions, however they were not
retained.
I located the Registry Entry which did already exist but it would not allow
me to enter 4,294,967,295 with the commas.
I removed the commas and switched from Hexadecimal to Decimal.

When the next message was received the Desktop Alert appeared for approx 2
seconds.

I went back to check the registry key and it has changed to ffffff
and hexadecimal . It seems that the change wasn't kept.
I then deleted the original key and created it again with the same results
(i.e. the change was not retained and it went back to fffff and hexadecimal)

Have I entered something incorrectly?
Thankyou

Update!

I believe I've found the problem. I interpreted the following line from the
website

Double click the key to give it a decimal value between 0 and 4,294,967,295

as meaning to choosing the decimal rather than hexadecimal value. Clearly,
my mistake.

I think the author might consider just removing the word 'decimal' from that
line altogether as I think others might find it confusing also ?

Once again, my sincere thanks for your help.

No, my bad. I forgot to mention that the article was still in BETA (that's
why the tool isn't available yet either).

The maximum value is 3000 lower as that is hardcoded already. So the maximum
value you can put in the registry is
429464295 or a HEX value of fffff447

Thanks for testing! ;-)
