No Desktop alert - Outlook 2007 updated

M

Mateo

Hi!

Desktop alerts were always displayed when I received new messages but
suddenly after installing one of suggested Microsoft updates desktop
notifications disappeared.
When I use desktop alert settings and click on the Preview button - nothing
is displayed. But sometimes when I close and restart Outlook the button works
and the sample alert window is visible. Unfortunately it is never displayed
when new mails come.

Have you ever met with such problem?

Using Outlook 2007 with all possible updates and Vista 64-bit.

Mateo

Do you have the outlook notifier addin installed? (It's used by apple's
mobile service)
Does it work if you start outlook in safe mode? At start menu, run type
outlook.exe /safe
(See http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/switches.htm for more help with
switches.)

Thanks for the response.
No, I don't use any notification addins.
I've just tried to run Outlook in safe mode but seems there is no "Preview"
button in available in safe mode so I was not able to test the desktop alert.
But I also sent a mail to myself and didn't get any notification on the
screen.

Hmm... Strange
Now I resterted Outlook and the desktop alert appeared after a new message
came.
So seems there must be something wrong in one of setting files or maybe
registry entries. Have no idea.

someone said they did that too - they reset it (disable alerts, reenable
them) and it works for awhile then dies again and they start the process all
over.

Well I've done everything under the sun to get my desktop alert to work and
it just won't. The key seems to be if you go into tools and choose to
preview the desktop alert and it shows up, then it works, if it doesn't then
it won't show for emails. I've added a rule to display on every email,
started outlook in safe mode, disabled and re-enabled it, rebooted, killed
the process, clean install, I haven't edited the registry, and don't plan to,
but man, what a PIA. It seems that Microsoft did us a great disservice with
SP2.

Yeah, you are right.
This is definitely SP2 bug.
I had a lot of crashes lately and finally decided to make some tests.
No SP2 - everything works smoothly.
SP2 - no desktop alert and other crashes.
