Outlook 2003 Crawls - Outlook Express 6 was speedy - Is .PST file the problem?

I had very few problems with Outlook Express 6, (which makes a different file for each e-mail folder), but after Installing Office 2003 SBE & importing my e-mail into Outlook 2003 which uses one BIGGGG .PST file, Outlook crawls

What are the PST file size limitations in Outlook 2003? Mine is over 6GB, (reduced from almost 9GB) & Outlook crawls. I've removed duplicates, archived messages over 6 months old but the volume of e-mail overwhelms Outlook 2003. I receive over 2000 e-mails per day & can't get through the Junk e-mail folder fast enough - I have a lot of other work to do, ($$$$$) before throwing out e-mail I haven't checked yet. HELP

I have an Athlon 2600XP computer with 1GB of RAM & 25 GB of Free Hard disk space. I also have a 3 Meg cable connection

ANY IDEAS?

6GB is huge indeed. For previous version of Outlook the limit was 2GB. By
default the limit is 20Gb but can be set as large as 4096TB. I'm quite
curious how you get the file that big but with 2000 mails a day you've got
other issues as well :-D

Make sure you don't have got the pst-file on a networkshare as this will
slow down significantly as well and is not recommended practise by
Microsoft. A speedy harddisk, plenty of memory and not too much e-mails in
the folder you are trying to access will help you as well (don't keep like
20000 items in the Inbox as building and maintaning the list is a
performance hit as well).
