Outlook 2003 crashing

For the last 2 days, whenever I open Outlook (which I only use for email) I
get the message "Personal Folders were not closed properly, and must be
checked". It then takes somewhere between 1 and 2 hours to check the personal
folders, after which time it looks like Outlook is usable, but in fact it
crashes again straight away. Then the whole cycle repeats. Not sure what else
I can do about this. At the moment I can't use email.

I'm assuming Outlook 2003 and Windows XP here, just so I can give you some
information, so these instructions may be slightly different if your version
is not the same.

Use Control Panel > Mail > Data Files to find out where your Personal
Folders (PST) file is located. Make a backup copy of this file.

Then see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497 for instructions on
recovering data using SCANPST.
