Can't Open Outlook 2003

Have been using Outlook 2003 for some time with pretty much no problems.
Recently it "froze up" on me . . . had to kill with Task Manager.
On re-opening, got the "Program was not closed properly. Checking personal
folders for problems message".
This completed and prompted me for my password to open but immediately
repeated the above cycle. It's stuck in a loop.

How do I break this cycle please?

Secondly, am I able to somehow access my contacts in the mean time?

Run the repair tool against your PST file. Close Outlook. Search for
scanpst.exe and double-click it to open. Follow the instructions to have it
scan and repair the file. If it finds errors, when it's done run it again.
Repeat this until no further errors are found. Open Outlook to see if that's
resolved the issue. Please post back with your progress. Good luck!

Locate scanpst.exe and run it on the pst file, several times if it fixes any
err's
(you may have to search to include hidden)

Maybe you can help me too. My Outlook totally will not open. I double-click
on the icon and it does nothing. I can't not get into my emails or the pgram
in general. Can you help me. I tried you scanpst.exe but it prompted me to
indicate the file to repair. I don't know what would be the made file name
that would fix this. Please help. I have not been able to get into my email
for days so I am using Yahoo now but I can't get into my contacts and the
emails that people have been sending me.
PLEASE HELP!

Thanx DL.

Yes I've tried this one (Scanpst) a couple of times now. So far, each time
it gets to the end of about stage 3 or 4 of 8 stages then stops with a
message that says (paraphrase) "Unable to complete scan. File left unfixed" .
.. . ??
I'll keep running it. Maybe it'll slowly progress . . .??

Um . . . Do you know where Outlook's contact folders resides and is it
accessible from outside a disfunctioning Outlook?

I'm a bit of an amatuer but I'm just wondering if your Outlook closed
properly the last time you used it . . . ? If you run Task Manager and look
under the Processes tab, can you see "Outlook.exe" lurking in there?

(Rivetting) Progress report!
New heights of frustration . . . ??
I ran Scanpst.exe. Went thru all 8 stages beautifully. Clicked on Repair and
it all went pear shaped!! (Scanpst froze, then I got the blue screen of
death. Computer restarted and insisted on running Disk Checker!
How come only I get to have all the fun!!?? ; - )

Most likely your issue isn't Outlook related at all then but it only
surfaces via Outlook. Check your System Event Log and see if it is reporting
any issues. It could be that there will be some disk errors. If so, do a
full backup of your data and replace the hard disk as soon as possible.

Instead of looking at the Event Log you can also use a disk tool provided by
your disk manufacturer or a SMART tool (if your hard disk supports SMART).
These tools can give you an overview of the health of your hard disk.
