Outlook 2003 Contact telephone data entry error

J

jdepree

I am using Outlook 2003 w/ business contact manager. When I add a new
contact in the My Contacts - Contacts section and I enter the telephone
number, I hear the deep tone, error sound that Microsoft has when there is a
problem and then Outlook shuts down. When I open Outlook back up and search
for the new contact that I entered, there is no record of the contact. I am
able to enter the contact name, address, and e-mail without a problem. If I
enter all appropriate data except data into the Phone number section, I can
save the contact and it appreas when I open contact back up. It seems to
only happen when I enter the data in the Phone number section. Does anybody
have any experience with this and can anyone offer any assistance?

Thanks in advance,
jdepree

Post in a BCM group.
Had you posted an Outlook question, I would suspect that you were trying to
enter phone number data without telling Outlook your default dialing
location.
But, as it is, you posted a BCM question.

Russ,

Thank you for your reply. Even though I have the version of Outlook 20003 w/
BCM, I am not using BCM. This is the reason why I posted here. I am not
trying to make a call or use the dail function, only to enter the telephone
number into the contact record. When I enter the telephone number into the
new contact, imediatley the windows hour glass comes up, and then outlook
shuts down.

But your installing BCM changes everything. You still need to set your
default dialing location correctly. Outlook is crumping because it doesn't
know how to format your phone numbers.

Russ,

OK I understand, this is my first time posting a question. Should I copy and
paste my original question into a new BCM discussion and continue on from
there?

When I went into:

In Contacts, on the Actions menu, Call Contact, New Call, and Click Dialing
Properties it closed down on my as well..

Thanks again for your help,

jdepree

That's what I'd do.
In Contacts, on the Actions menu, Call Contact, New Call, and Click
Dialing
Properties it closed down on my as well..

Try fixing it from Control Panel's "Phone and Modem Options" applet.

Again, Outlook is most likely crashing when you enter the phone number
dialog because you have failed to tell it your dialing location. That is not
an Outlook setting. Set that in Control Panel > Phone and Modems...
