Outlook 2003 client with Exchange Server 5.5 falls over

Having used various versions of Outlook client with
Exchange 5.5 for several years without mishap I've fallen
at the first hurdle when connecting some new client PC's
with WindowsXP and Office/Outlook 2003.

Although the machines connect to our NT4.0 Server domain
without a hitch the Outlook 2003 client cannot reliably
connect to Exchange 5.5 Server. Its as though the
connection isn't reliable- but it's a hard wired 100Mb lan
and there are no communications problems being experienced
by other users of my Exchange 5.5 server.

I've searched Technet for some while now without getting
any nearer to this. Please can anyone help me with this.

I'm having the same issue with Outlook 2003 and Exchange
5.5. I finally got Outlook 2003 to see my server after
typing in the IP address of the machine instead of the
host name (I also added an extry in my HOSTS file). It
does seem to see the exchange server, but it won't
connect up to it. I thought maybe it was just timing
out, but I increased the timeout to a few minutes.

I tried this but the same problem remains and it will only
sometimes (but rarely) see the Exchange Server.

This is a live environment in which 30 other users with
old PC's (running Outlook 98 to Outlook 2000 on NT4.0 and
Win 2k Pro) are working perfectly so it doesn't appear to
be an Exchange Server or networking problem; on the face
of it this can only be a problem with Outlook 2003 as it
only ocurs on the new PC's that are loaded with Windows XP
Pro and Outlook 2003. Sadly there's not a lot about this
on Technet yet so I'm stuck until someone comes to the
rescue.

To all with Outlook 2003 & Exchange 5.5 issues,
You may want to visit < http://www.slipstick.com >, and
look over these two articles:
"Outlook 2003 Rules May Halt Exchange 5.5" and
"Update CDO on Exchange Server before Using Outlook 2003"

Good Luck...
