Outlook 2002 noimages in incoming email

Until yesterday, my Outlook 2002 had behaved quite well., however,
myincoming email will not display any images. Instead, I see a red x. How can
I restore this?
 
Follow-up:
I have tried checking my Norton Anti-Virus to see if I had blocked
anything myself but this proved to be of no avail.
I went directly to my email client (earthlink) via webmail and all is well
there so the problem is with Outlook.
What tweaking can I do to solve this problem?
