I am using vista home premium and outlook 2002. once in 24 hours when
sending and receiving, it hangs on receiving x of y. outlook is using sp3.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?

FYI Vista is not known to support that old a version of Outlook.

Does Outlook hang at a specific time every 24 hours? Are there any errors
indicated when you view the send/receive progress? Are there any
Office-related errors in the application event viewer? Do you have antivirus
scanning your incoming/outgoing emails? How often do you have Outlook set to
poll the server for email?

when i use windows mail, it works fine. i don't get this problem. i leave
the computer running overnight and when i check in the morning i get this
problem. i have set outlook to poll the server every minute. yes anti viurs
is running. if you cancel send/receive it gives incoming server related
error, however pop3 server seems to be ok. any suggestions?

First off, you're polling far too frequently. One minute does not allow
enough time to connect to the server, poll for mail, start the download, and
have your antivirus scan everything coming in and then going out before
Outlook is polling again.

Set your polling frequency for no less than 5 minutes but 10 is better.
Also, you can safely stop scanning your incoming and outgoing mail with your
antivirus programme. Your real time scanner will catch whatever it's updated
for.

If there is a receiving server related error, what does it say exactly? It's
very hard to determine what's happening if there is an error but you don't
know what it is.

Kathleen, I have set polling frequency to 10 mins. I have turned off scanning
incoming and outgoing emails. i will leave computer running overnight and if
problem reoccurs then i will make a note of error message and let you know.

may i talk about another issue. outlook not saving password. i appreciate it
may not be supported however what is the workaround? it is annoying having to
enter password each time you launch outlook
thanks.

Outlook 2002 prompting for a password when installed on Vista is a known
problem, email passwords are simply not saved. It's all to do with protected
storage interfaces which are no longer supported in Vista.

I kind of doubt that there will be a workaround for Outlook 2002 on Vista
since it's two generations behind what's current. Outlook 2002 is no longer
in mainstream support so the issue is very unlikely to be addressed.

You could try a Windows script programme, check here for more information
about Outlook 2002 on Vista:
