I am currently using Outlook 2000. Last week I started receiving an error
message when opening Outlook: "Outlook encountered a problem and needs to
close". It will not open. I have tried rebooting the system and it still
will not open. All other Office programs will open. Can anyone help with
this?

Hi PJ,
first of all check your pst file, if it is not bigger than 1.8GB.

Where do I look for the size? I checked under total size under my computer
and nothing is there. I got the 4.12GB by right clicking on the icon and
looking into properties.

Which icon did you click?

I clicked on the Outlook icon.

Sorry, few other questions. I have office 2003, but did not upgrade Outlook.
I do have it on the DVD. Should I just upgrade to OL2003? I tried this,
but it wants me to delete OL2000 first. I was afraid if I did this I would
lose all of my emails, contacts and any other data that I have. If I
upgrade, will my old information be on OL2003?

If you upgrade properly, it should reuse your old data. However, to be
safe, just make a backup.

Upgrading, however, won't cure the PST issue. You said:

Where is this icon on which you clicked? In which folder does it reside?

Andreas,

I downloaded the file. Extracted the 2gb152.exe file. I have the 5 files
they say I should have. I started the Ps2gb.exe program. I browsed and found
the outlook .pst files. But I don't know which one is the problem. Here is
what I have. Let me know which one I need to work with. I am stuck at step
4. Thanks,
archive.pst 72,665KB
backup.pst 21,696KB
new outlook.pst 25,545KB
outlook.pst 46,113KB

Hi PJ,

but there is no file with 4.61 GigaByte.!?!
46,113KB = 46MB
so you don´t need the pst2GB programm!
Please try to open all pst files via file > open > datafile.
And when next time the error message comes up, try first detect and repair!

Andreas,

I found out over the weekend my problem is not with Outlook. It is
actually, with McAffe's SpamKiller. I recently downloaded an updated version
and it does not work with Outlook 2000. Thanks for your help.
