Outlook 2000 not recieving email without clicking on another folder or send/recieve

M

Matt Barys

Hi,

We are having the strangest of problems with one of our users.
Whenever she get's new email in her inbox, it doesn't show up until
she clicks on a different folder (Sent Items, Calendar, etc) or if she
hits Send/Recieve. She's had no problems before since last week.
Nothing has changed on our network or Exchange 5.5 server. Any ideas
why this is happening? It's like Outlook isn't talking to the Exchange
server until we initiate it. Any help would be appreciated. I've tried
Detect and Repair, deleting her exchange entry and re-created it and
many other things. Also, this is a straight Exchange setup, no POP
servers involved.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your post.

Before we troubleshoot this issue further, we need to make sure if it is an
Outlook issue or Exchange issue (if it is an Exchange issue, you can post
it into Exchange newsgroup for assistance). Please check the following:

1. Does this occur with all the Outlook clients in your domain?

2. If this issue occurs on some of the clients, please try to log in as
another user and then check if the same issue persists.

3. Does this feature works before?

- If this issue occurs to any users with any clients in your domain, it is
typically a server side problem resides in Exchange.

If this issue occurs on some clients only, please let me know the Outlook
client version (for example, 2000, 2002 or 2003). This will help us to
design the detailed troubleshooting plan.

Please check the above questions and let me know the results of each
question. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Eric,

1. It only happens with one client in our domain of 200 users using
Outlook.

3. All features worked before this happened. It was with Outlook 2000,
but for grins I upgraded the client to 2003, same thing.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

It appears that this issue is regarding a specific client. Please check the
following to narrow down the cause:

1. Use this user who is using the problematic computer to log on to another
correct client. Then check if this issue still occurs.

- If it does, it means that there was problem on the user's Exchange
account. You can recreate it or consult Exchange newsgroup at:
Microsoft.public.exchange.admin

- If not, it means that there was problem on the problematic client.

2. Use another user to log onto the problematic client and then check if
this issue occurs with this new user.

Please check the above and then let me know the results for further
investigation. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Eric,

1. I logged her into my computer and it works fine.

2. I logged on to her computer and I'm getting the same problem.

Could this be a registry issue?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

It was indicated that this issue exists on this particular computer and it
occurs with any users on this computer. This means that generally the
original installation has been corrupted. Thus, Outlook is work abnormally.
It could be a registry issue but it is very difficult to find it. I suggest
you completely remove and reinstall Outlook to resolve this issue. (If you
have Office installed, please reinstall as well).

You mentioned that you have tried installed Outlook 2003. If it is the
cause, you need to remove it as well. To completely remove Outlook, please
make sure to clean the installation folder and then following registries.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Schedule+
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office

Please let me know if this solves this issue or if you need further
assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.
