outlook 2000 MSI ADS and security privileges

Hello all

I hope that there is an answer out there just waiting for this one..

Ok I have packaged outlook 2000 MSI with an MST to assign information and
privileges just like I would with any other package...

I Log on to XP as a network user basic Guest privileges

The problem I have is that it installs fine no problems reported or anything
nothing in the event log no popup boxes nothing.

But as soon as you click the icon you get the following error reported.

"Cannot start MS Outlook. Outlook can not be configures because
administrator privileges are required for you to install some types of
software on this computer. Before you can use outlook, you must either log
on to your computer as an administrator and finish configuring outlook, or
ask your system administrator to configure outlook e-mail support for you."

Now I have looked into this and have figured it out to be the registry keys
that do not have the access rights (can not change them manually), even
though I have given them admin rights via the MST.

I have tried giving the network user increased MSI installation privileges
via the GPO but I am now at a loss as this error has not occurred on other
version of office and outlook 97 and 2002 with this user on this XP (XP is a
vanilla image and nothing has changed in that image there are no security
patches no service packs nothing).

Has anyone else had a problem with this or know of a solution

Please help

Are you logging on with a guest account? have you tried logging on with a
domain user account?

Hello there TIM

The users that will be installing this MSI/MST outlook 2000 will be of the
user privileges guest account basically the problem is that I can't have an
administrator going round to every machine after a user has logged on and
installed outlook 2000 as that is not practical and not what packaging or
Microsofts MSI is all about....

So is there a solution where I can include the registry Hacks into the
MST???

Thank you for your Help

Have tried to log on as an administrator with
administrative rights? XP doesn't allow you to configure
outlook without being logged in as an administrator.

yep logging in as an admin works fine but then it would wouldn't it and that
is the problem

my point is this

Microsoft created/brought outlook and they created/brought MSI they also
created/brought the ADS directory
so why the hell will it not work.......everything I am using is Microsoft
all O/S are MS so it should work right! (yeah! stop laughing at the back).

Anyway installing as an administrator is not an option (the whole point of
MSI... and ADS/GPO is so that you can install under user/guest privileges)
after installation I can not have an administrator wandering round after the
install to some 1000 odd machines to log on as an admin just to get the
thing to work...

anyway has anyone got a solution to the problem..

cheers
