Outlook 07 Junk Filter Not Working

E

Enya

I've blocked messages from a particular sender multiple times and also put
his email address into my blocked sender list. No matter how many times I do
it, I still receive his emails (which are being blasted to a group). Most
other blocked emails go directly to the junk folder - but these keep showing
up in my inbox no matter how many times I block it. I've looked at the
details and it does not appear any alias is being used. ANY and ALL
suggestions would be appreciated! THANKS.

What is on your Safe Recipients list?

There is no conflict with the safe recipients - the person I'm trying to
block is not in that list but has been repeatedly added to the blocked list.

Ok, let me rephrase the question.

Is *your* email address on the safe recipients list? The address that is
being mailed to?

No - my own address is not on the safe recipient list. (BTW - if you try to
do that, MS pops up a note saying you CANNOT add your own address to the safe
recipient list because most junk mail will NOT be blocked.)

I keep forgetting 2007 added that feature. You said he's mailing a group.
Is it a group of individual addresses, or a group like a yahoogroup address?
If it's the latter, make sure the address being mailed to isn't on the Safe
Recipients list, since I'm pretty sure that would over ride the Blocked
list.

Also, is it just the SMTP address in the Blocked Senders list, or is it with
the display name too?

First, thank you for continuing the dialogue on this - it has been
frustrating so ANY new thought is helpful.

To answer your last question, my email address is appearing in a list of
email addresses in the "to" field. As far as I can tell on my end, there is
no group name.

I have entered the sender's his (e-mail address removed) in the blocked list
numerous times to no avail. As best I can tell there is no way to list a
display name or add it in parentheses without generating an error. The add
field in the block senders feature permits @domain.com (as a universal) or
(e-mail address removed) (which I've used to block his address numerous times to no
avail.) I've used the message options features to view the Internet header
details and cannot find any other aliases or addresses for his messages.

He's sending from a hotmail account so I can't experiment with excluding the
universal domain in the spam blocker or I'd end up excluding a whole bunch of
"safe" senders including two of our kids.

If you have any suggestions outside the standard blocking mechanism - which
this sender is somehow defeating - they'd be most welcome. Otherwise I'll
just have to resign myself to manually deleting his messages and finding a
way to get over the frustrations of it all. OM....OM.....OM....

Well, you said other Blocked Senders are being blocked, right? The address
in the From field in the header is the one on the Blocked Senders list, is
not on the Safe Senders list, and none of the other recipients on the To or
CC fields are in the Safe Recipients list?

Well, you could set up a rule. That's simple enough. So long as it's not
an IMAP account, it's pretty clear cut. Can also look at the ISP side of
the house, and see if there are any spam filters you can apply there. I
mean, strictly speaking, if an account is on the Blocked Senders list, its a
matter of figuring out why that's not being honored, hence my questions
above.

Thanks for your time on this. It appears time to give up. I've explored all
the same things you've suggested to no resolution. The only thing I haven't
tried is setting up a rule - which I'll pursue. Appreciated your trying even
if the question ultimately has not been answered. Happy New Year.
