PC died, parents gave me their old one - it has office 2003 onto the system
but can't figure out what setting it is that allowed me to view a picture at
the bottom of an email if it was attached in the reading pane, currently all
pics show as an attachment I have to doubleclick to view, it used to just
show at the bottom of my email, been thru lots of help menus and setting
changes can't seem to find out how to do this properly.

My old pc had office 97 and all my emails that had pics attached showed the
pic in the bottom area under the email text, just this outlook 2003 i can't
find what setting makes the pic show within the reading pane area vs having
to double click each attachment.

Outlook never had such a feature. Are you sure it was outlook and not
outlook express that you used?

Yes I was wrong it was outlook express...

So with this outlook on 2003 office I can't "see" the images under the text
in the reading pane no matter what option or change I make to the program
itself?

I always thought of outlook as MORE than express (next step up in features
and powers), frustrating cuz I was used to seeing an image in that way vs
clicking each image to view it individually.

Outlook bears no relationship whatsoever to Outlook Express except for the poorly chosen shared name. Outlook is aimed at corporations who use Exchange servers and require a lot more security than Outlook Express which is aimed at the home user market.
