Outline Numbering

I use the outline numbering feature often when creating large documents, however, recently when I turn the outline numbering feature on I do not get the various levels of automatic numbering, ie. only level 1 is working. It used to be when you increased indent or used your tab key, the next level of numbering would automatically come up. Does anyone have any idea why this is not working?

Two options
First, look in Tools|AutoCorrect Options. Look at the AutoFormat as You Type tab. Is set first and left indents with backspaces enabled? Try changing that and testing your lists

Second, you can hold down alt and shift at the same time and use the right and left arrow keys to switch to different levels of an outline
