Outgoing sticks in Outbox - and links do not work...

I have WinXP Professional and was using OfficeXP. I uninstalled it and
installed Office 2000 (we prefer it). All is fine except that outgoing
mail sits in the Outbox until we open it and send throught the
Tools/Send/Receive. If I click on the send /receive button, it shows
as connecting and then complete. But nothing happens.
Also, any links in an email either do nothing or a box comes up saying
"Locate Link Browser" and shows that it is searching for an exe
file.
I'm sure it is just soemthing in my settings but cannot figure out
what.
Any help is appreciated...
Tks!!

What happens if you set your mail account to send immediately when
connected?

To get rid of number 2 complaint, browse to your default browser and click
on the executable for it. The prompts should stop.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, bjk asked:
