Outbox, Send/Receive before Emails leave?????

Hugh

In Outlook, after composing an email I hit Send. The
email just goes to my Outbox and languishes there. I
must hit the Send/Receive button before it'll leave.
There must be a way to make emails leave automatically
after hitting Send without this step.

Of course there is. You didn't provide any information.
Post your Outlook version, mail account type, connection type, and automatic
Send/Receive settings so someone can tell you how.

Russ; thanks for your reply. My Outlook is 2002
(10.2627.2625) (I get that from Help, About Outlook.) As
for the other info needed, I must admit I'm not sure how
to find those things out. All I know is I have a cable
modem and (email address ends with cox.net). I do know
when I set up the email account I used pop.west.cox.net
and smtp.west.cox.net, though I don't know if they're for
incoming or outgoing emails. I'm very unsophisticated,
so any guidance would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks
again. --Hugh

Well normally your mail will be sent immediately by default when you
configure an Internet Mail account correctly over a cable modem connection.
Let's look for simple things first. Click on your File Menu. Make sure you
didn't set Outlook to "Work Offline" by mistake. If not, then go to Tools >
Options > Mail Setup > Send/Receive. Is to option to Send Immediately when
connected checked?
