A fix as been released by M$ to resolve the problem of undeletable mails:

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

The patch worked for me for new compositions, but I still get the same error
when responding to emails.

Please explain a little more clearly what you mean Coykoi, and include any
error messages that are given.

When I reply to an email that I've received, I get the following message and
the email does not send.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: Microsoft Community Notification - Re: Outbox
message stuck', Account: '(e-mail address removed) Mail Account', Server:
'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

Since installing the patch I can send an email if I compose a new message.
The only problem is with replying to a received email.

Thanks,

Coykoi

This problem could be due to interference from your antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

I've been running Norton for as long as I've had this computer with Vista.
Why would it suddenly be a problem?

I don't have enough experience with WinMail to know for sure but in Outlook
Express if your Sent Items folder becomes too full and you have OE set to
save copies of sent items then the sent email will not move to the sent
items folder and will instead get sent repeatedly until deleted or the Sent
Items folder is cleared out.

How full is too full? Good question but no answer here. Create an archive
folder and use it to store old sent items.

Do you have Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Vista installed?
If so, it includes the KB941090 fix.
