outbox fails

I create a new email and click SEND. It goes into the
OUTBOX and the address info is in Italics. When I click
Send/Receive, I get a Failure message and the address
info changes to normal text.

I re-open the email, click Send again and it changes back
to Italics in the OUtbox. I click Send/Receive and it
sends OK - sometimes, I have to go through this process 2-
3 times to get it sent.

If I have more than one message in the Outbox, then
usually all but one will be sent. The last one changes
to normal text and will not Send until I go through the
process above.

thx,
jim

! Task 'server name - Sending and Receiving' reported
error (0x80040109): 'Unknown Error 0x90040109'

Oddly, I get this for the one message that doesn't send,
and yet others in the OUTBOX send OK.

So it's just hanging on one particular message - the same one all the time?

Do you have more than one account set up in Outlook? What version of
Outlook?

Yes, I have two accounts in Outlook. It hangs on either
account. It appears to be more dependent upon the
complexity of the message, not the account.

No, it doesn't just hang on the same message. It hangs
on A message each time. If there is only one message in
the outbox, it will hang on it. If there are many
messages in the outbox, it will hang on one of them.

It appears to not hang on a very simple message - short,
one addressee, simple text. If the message goes to a
distribution list, or many addressees, or has fancy text
like colors or different fonts, or has an attachment,
then it is likely to hang.

If there are multiple messages, it appears to hang on one
at either end of the stack, usually the bottom, not in
the middle.

Sometimes, it will take 3-4 re-tries to get the message
sent. Twice, the message was being sent to a
distribution list of 12 people and I had to copy the text
into 4 separate messages to 3 people each and each of
them sent fine.

thanks,
jim
