Oultook and attachments

Patrick Q.

I have just upgraded from Outlook Express to Outlook. I
have run into a problem when sending emails with
attachments with total size of greater than say 500KB.

The message seems to sit in the Outbox and I keep getting
error messages saying that the connection has timed out
((0x8004210B - Operation timed out waiting for a response
from the sending SMTP server))- yet the actual message
seems to be sent as I do receive it in the Inbox (when I
send the message to myself!) and it keeps being received
numerous times until I delete it from the Outbox. Fuuny
though but it does not appear in the Sent box

The connection diagnostic test works fine and I receive
the test message with no problems. I rang my cable
techsupport who blamed everyone and everything else yet
the error message suggests that I call my ISP!.

The timeout limit in the advanced configuration is set to
maximum.

I have a firewall and virus checking however the Outlook
Express worked fine so surely it can not be anything
there.

Any suggestions / ideas would be appreciated. I have
wasted the best part of the day trying to work this out.

I think it may be easier to stick with Outlook Express!

Sounds like your virusscanner is doing an outgoing mailscan. Most
virusscanners do integrate with Outlook but do not integrate with OE. You
should be able to disable this integration from within the virusscanner. The
on-access scanner and the built-in security feautures of an up-to-date
Outlook will sufice.
