I use outlook express to receive my e-mail I noticed that it looks
for a dialer. I use DSL service. How do you change the settings to use
the DSL and not a dialer.
I have a Dell with windows Xp home edition on it.
Thanks in advance.

Go to Internet Explorer...you can go via outlook
express/tools/options/connections then click on change... put dot in the
obvious button so you dont use the dial up on connection.

But you used Forte Agent to post your message to this newsgroup??

You'd be better off asking your question on an OE newsgroup -- eg,
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress if you're using
OE6. And it would probably help if you explain when OE looks for a dialer.

How many mail accounts do you have set up?

Hi,
I only have 1 account set up. And only 1 user account on this Dell
computer.

Go to the Tools menu, pick Accounts, click on the Mail tab, highlight your
account and pick Properties, click on the Connection tab, make sure the drop
down list is set for Local area connection then take the tick out of the box
beside Always connect to this account using. Do this for any newsgroup
accounts as well. Alternatively if you do not use any dial up accounts then
delete all dial up connections in Network connections in the Control panel.

It seems like if I attach a file. The outlook express takes a very
long time.
But if its a text message without an attachment. It is very fast.
I hope this extra info. helps.
Thanks in advance.

No AFAIK - that is usually limited by your ISP.....

What does this extra info have to do with your original question/problem?

This unrelated to with your original question. Think about it. In a text
message you're sending a very small amount of info. Depending on the
attachment you could be sending megabytes of info. It's going to take
more time.

I already understood that. The Picture(JPG) was only 365 bkb.
Small for verizon DSL service.

This isn't connected to the other problem. Upload speed is often much slower
than download speed with broadband.

Hi,
In outlook express under accounts/ properties/
I moved the slider bar for Server time outs to 2 minutes.
This did not help either.
But if I got to my verizon, create the same e-mail with the picture
attached.
It sends very fast! Go figure that one out.
Thanks in advance.

Then I would suspect your anti-virus scanner is slowing down your outgoing
email. There isn't really a need to scan outgoing email. See if you can turn
it off in your antivirus program.

Hi,
I use Verizon's Internet security suit .
There is no option that I could find to scan outgoing e-mail.
Any other things that I can try?
Thanks and have a great Easter!

Not sure about Verizon. Most ISP's use 3rd party security apps sometimes
rebranded with the ISP's name. You could check with Verizon's customer
support or if you can figure out which anti-virus they use someone here may
know how to turn off email scanning.

Hi,
I talked to Verizons staff 3x this week.
They say to talk to the computers manufacturer.
As unfortunate as that is-it is a Dell!
They have no real tech support unless you buy a years worth of
software support for 240.00 dollars!Which I will refuse to pay.
They have enough of my money and wasted time.
I also searched Microsoft web site.
I do not have Microsoft office on my computer. I un-installed it
a month ago. I hope it removed all of its settings. Do
not really know for sure.
Thanks again.
Happy Easter!
