Several times in recent days I have attempted to switch identities in OE and
when I click OK OE closes. Then it won't reopen. No shortcut from the
Desktop or the Start Menu will cause it to reopen. I have to reboot Windows
and then OE loads. Is this a known problem or is there something I can do to
correct it?

Hi,

OLEXP: An Overview of the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=331923

If you have not installed the Cumulative Update for OE: There are currently
two workarounds and one option:

Click on File/Identities/Manage Identities and remove the
checkmark in "Use this identity when starting a program".

You Cannot Switch Identities in Outlook Express After You Install Windows XP
SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q329084&

Another option/workaround:

Before changing identity, Press F1. The Outlook Express "Help" window will
open (and leave it running in the background). Now click on FILE > SWITCH
IDENTITY and select your other identity.

Option:

Put a shortcut to msoe.chm in the Startup folder and leave the default ID
active.

What would you think about uninstalling the update until the bug is fixed?

I don't think uninstalling Q330994 will correct the problem, JD. Either
always exit an Identity via File>Exit and Log Off Identity or use the script
on Tom's page to force a log-on for any Identity.

You are *not* alone.[/QUOTE]

I take it you're suggesting not switching identities while OE is open.
That's when the problem has occurred. We've found that when we just close OE
(without "logging off"), the next time we open it it opens to the identity
that was used at the last closing.

Yes, that is what I'm suggesting, JD.
