Oulook crashes as soon as it starts downloading mail

I am running Outllok 2003. For the last couple of days, Outlook crashes the
moment it starts. The .pst file sze was about 4.2 GB, which I have managed to
reduce to about 3.9 GB after deleting mails.

Still, it gives the message "Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to
restart" the momemt it starts downloading mail from the POP3 Server.

That size should'nt be an issue; You've tried Detect/Repair from the help
menu, tried also running the repair tool scanpst.exe on the data file?
