Other suggestions to fix images saving as BMP format?

Somtime in the last 2 weeks I've run into a problem trying to save
check images from my bank (Wells Fargo) using Internet Explorer 6.
Previously the front of the check image would save as a PNG file, and
the back of the check image would save as a JPEG file. It would also
assign a default name that had the check number in it.

Now I'm only able to save the image as a (much larger) BMP format and
the name defaults to "Untitiled".

I've found the Microsoft KB articles on this, and have deleted my
temporary internet files, removed my downloaded program files, moved
the location of the folder for my temporary internet files, and made
sure the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option is not selected.

I still have the problem.

I can save other images I find on the web in their proper format.

I have this issue on both my desktop and laptop, but if I use Netscape
Navigator I am able to save the front image in PNG, rear image in JPEG,
and get a default file name that has the check number in it.

Any suggestions on how to fix IE to work the way it used to?

go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced and scroll down to the Security
section. Uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to disk".

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix the 'Content Type' settings:

regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
(and/or)
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll (for WinXP)

Thanks for the suggestions. I had already made sure that "Do not save
encrypted pages to disk" was unchekced. I ran both regsvr32 commands
(I'm on XP).

I still get the same results - the check images will only save as BMP.

Hi,
Have you installed, updated or reconfigured any third-party security
programs in this period of time?

If running a third-party firewall, try turning on the Windows Firewall and
disabling the other.

Any new graphics programs that might have changed file associations?

You might try the JPG File Association Fix at
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm I don't see a fix listed for PNG
files.

Hope this helps,
Don

Thanks for the advice, but it did not make any difference.
Interestingly I am seeing the same behavior on both my desktop and
laptop (the latter of which has not had anything change for a long
time) *and* the same thing is happening on other computers I've tried
(friends and shared computers in Internet cafes and hotel lobbies).

Looks like the easiest solution for me is to fire up Netscape when I
need to save a check image from Wells Fargo.
